They also discuss whether Mother`s Day is a reason to celebrate consternation and Brand`s two passions: an online spelling game and an exercise bike. Levinson offers additional insight into the intricacies of voting during the pandemic: How can states ensure voters don`t have to choose between their health and their right to vote? “States must act now to ensure that voters can safely exercise their right to vote in November,” Levinson concluded. “The best way to do this is to broaden absentee voting. Now is the time for states to ensure they have the infrastructure to send and process many more mail-in ballots than in the past. In addition, states should expand personal voting options that allow for safe social distancing — such as voting earlier and more personal protective equipment for election officials. All of this requires political will, voter education and money.
Can President Trump postpone the presidential election? “Yes and no,” Levinson replies. “Congress could vote to postpone the election, but not by much. President Trump`s term ends on January 20, 2021. Until then, the vote must be cast and counted. Why are some individuals and legislators reluctant to expand choice? “There is evidence that at least some Republicans believe that lower voter turnout helps their candidates, and that higher turnout in turn helps Democrats. On “Fox and Friends,” President Trump recently said, “They had things — electoral levels that, if you ever agree, would never let a Republican vote in this country again.” This is probably, at least in part, why Democrats generally introduce and support laws that make voting easier, while Republicans do the opposite, pushing for more restrictions on voting rights. Senator Mitch McConnell recently called for a proposal to increase voter turnout by making Election Day a federal holiday a Democratic takeover. How aggressive can the police be against protesters?
