The states and districts that pay lawyers the highest average salary are the District of Columbia ($192,530), California ($171,550), New York ($167,110), Massachusetts ($165,610) and Connecticut ($153,640). BLS expects 50,100 new jobs to be opened in this sector by 2028. The number of lawyer jobs is expected to increase by about 6% by 2028.
