The school has been offering practical vocational training (PVT) since 2004. It provides practical training to law graduates through the Division of Learning, Education and Development (LEAD) of the Law Society of South Africa (LSSA). The LSSA-UNISA Distance Learning School offers candidates practical distance learning in accordance with Article 6 (4) (b) of the Implementing Regulations of Law 28 of 2014 on Legal Practice, as amended, and is accredited by the Council of Legal Practice [LPC]. The program is structured courses that include the required modules according to the regulations of at least 400 fictitious hours over a maximum period of six months. There are two-semester PVT courses offered annually by the LSSA-UNISA distance learning school for PVT. The first course starts in January and the second in July. Students are trained in a practical setting in a simulated law firm environment. Each student is assigned to a “law firm”. Each “law firm” has access to an office and students have access to computers and a law library. Registration without scholarshipTuition fees are determined by the university. To determine the cost of this course, go to: How to determine relevant non-premium tuition.
(Opens in a new window) The main advantage of taking the course is that law graduates acquire a full range of skills and knowledge that they cannot acquire as trainee lawyers during their period of service under a practical professional training contract (article). LLB law graduates who successfully complete the PVT course are entitled to one year credit for the duration of their practical professional training contract (article) as a trainee lawyer. Places for students who wish to enroll in the WHV school are generally and unlike LEAD schools not limited. However, any request for such a training place is subject to provisional acceptance. Therefore, the form is only an application form and acceptance is not guaranteed. A minimum average of at least 4.0 in UniSA courses. EFTSL*: 0.250 Commonwealth Supported Program (Volume 4C) To determine the fees for this course under a Commonwealth supported program, go to: How to determine your Commonwealth supported course fees. (Opens in a new window) Not all courses are available on all of the above bases, and students will need to check if they are allowed to enroll in a particular course. The Society also invited two participating students from the Unisa cohort to present arguments against two of the Society`s students-in-training.
Although this agreement was warmly and warmly welcomed, it was unfortunately not concluded due to time constraints, as the next elimination round of the Unisa Moot Court Competition was scheduled for the following day. Kgothatso Moabelo, secretary to the judge`s president, helped the training team to organize all the necessary resources. Moabelo also linked the team to the Limpopo Society of Lawyers, which conducted its mock trials at the Supreme Court as part of its 2022 student programme. After discussion with the Society`s student program coordinators, an area of collaboration was identified that led the Society to invite Unisa students to participate and observe the simulated experiments. Polokwane`s Unisa law students recently got a glimpse into handling a legal case. This was done as part of the 2022 Inter-Regional Moot Court Competition Training, which took place in the northeastern region of Unisa. Professional Practical School of Legal Practice – Short Course [Associate] and LSSA UNISA Correspondence Course Students are responsible for their own accommodation and travel arrangements and expenses. Students may postpone accommodation and travel arrangements until it is confirmed that the course will continue. The student must attend a 10-day online treatment session. You must also complete an additional five (5) days of BLA trial advocacy training.
Satisfactory (full) participation in BLA trial advocacy training entitles the student to issue a BLA trial trial training certificate on their behalf. The school`s supervisory body reserves the right to change dates and/or cancel courses if the number of candidates is insufficient. Applicants will be informed in a timely manner of the termination. International students and students taking this course as part of a graduate program should refer to the home page of the relevant program to determine the cost of delivering this course. The training team would like to thank lawyer Cindy Marais, lawyer Lesetja Nkoana, lawyer Mahapa Thipe and lawyer Benedict Moshoeu, all from the Limpopo Society of Lawyers, for their support and camaraderie. This partisan collective oversaw the student program`s show trials, with Marais and Nkoana directing the company`s show trials and answering many questions from the student cohort. The main component of the training is distance learning, which requires students to engage in a disciplined study of LSSA practice manuals and all prescribed books. In addition, the student must submit all prescribed assignments on time, which he must pass with at least fifty percent (50%). LLB graduates who successfully complete their studies are entitled to one year credit for their practical professional training (article) as trainee lawyers. There are a limited number of places on each campus and applicants go through a selection process before being accepted (see point 8 below for important selection criteria).
Therefore, the attached form is only an application form and its acceptance is not guaranteed. To give law graduates the opportunity to acquire and develop practical legal skills to become effective legal practitioners. The objective of this course is to develop professional skills and values, including the qualities of UniSA graduates, with a structured analysis and reflection of the professional experience gained in the legal advice clinic. In addition to analyzing and reflecting on their personal experiences, students will examine the role of legal practitioners in the legal system and society at large. The training is handy to ensure that students are able to complete most entry-level tasks with minimal supervision at the end of the course. This annual initiative of the Unisa Law Clinic familiarizes law students with the practical side of the legal profession. The training is designed to equip students with skills in advocacy, court etiquette, public speaking, legal research, presentation, and legal development. This year`s team of trainers included Professor Angelo Dube and lawyer Lentumetse Padi, both from Unisa`s Department of Public, Constitutional and International Law, and Sipho Matshie from the Unisa Law Clinic. Students will participate in their clinical placement one day per week.
Students will also attend seminars that will prepare them for their clinical rotation, allow constructive reflection on their progress, and support the preparation of their assessment. The seminars also focus on developing students` understanding of work in a clinical setting as an `active` context for critical reflection on their personal development and role as professionals in society. During their internship at the clinic, students will also present materials from their experiences through online discussion forums to get early feedback on their learning and engage with their peers. During their internship, students prepare tasks that are specified in an internship workbook. After their internship, students must submit a reflective essay.
