Veracity has been part of English since the early 17th century, and we can honestly tell you that it derives from the Latin adjective vÄrÄx (“true”), which in turn comes from the ancient vÄrus (“true”). VÄrus also gives us truthfulness (“the quality of being true”), verification (“establishing the truth”) and veracity (“the appearance of truth”), among others. In addition, vÄrÄx is the root of the word veracity, a somewhat rarer synonym and cousin of veracity. Supported by Black`s Law Dictionary, Free 2nd ed., and The Law Dictionary.
